Careers: Summer Clerk ProgramThe ProgramDuring each school year, we seek to hire a few law students to participate in our summer clerk program. Students who are invited to participate in the program include both those who have completed their first year of law school and those who have finished their second year. We look initially to participants in the summer clerk program to meet our entry-level hiring needs. Objectives of the ProgramThe program gives our summer clerks a realistic view of practicing law at Johnson, Ayers & Matthews and helps participants bridge the gap between academia and practice. Our summer clerks work on real projects for real clients. They meet with clients and attend strategy sessions and court proceedings. They draft documents, write briefs, and help prepare for trials. The workload for our summer clerks can be intense, but participants appreciate the pace and view it largely as a product of the quality of projects that are assigned to them. |
